Google Quietly Testing a Handoff Feature for Seamless Cross-Device Use

Google might finally be getting serious about making Android devices play nicer together. New clues spotted in app code suggest Google is working on a feature called Handoff, which could make it easier to pick up where you left off across devices. It builds on earlier reports about App Cast, a feature that might let you stream apps from one Android device to another. Kind of like AirPlay, but for apps.
Google might finally bring Apple-like continuity to Android with Handoff feature
As spotted by the folks at Android Authority, the Google Play Services beta v25.25.31Â includes early signs of a new feature called Handoff. According to the code, Handoff would let you start an activity on one device, such as watching a video or using an app, and continue it seamlessly on another.
This builds on earlier discovered App Cast, a feature that could allow users to launch an app from a phone on a tablet without installing it separately. There are even more features in development. One of the most notable is notification syncing, which would clear a dismissed notification across all connected Android devices. This would address a long-standing annoyance for Android users who juggle multiple devices.
Google also appears to be working on simpler ways to share files and media across its ecosystem. The goal seems clear make Android devices feel more connected and consistent, similar to what Apple delivers with Handoff and Continuity.
At this stage, Handoff remains in development. Google has not made any official announcements, and the feature set could still evolve. However, its presence in Google Play Services suggests it is intended for a broad range of Android devices rather than just Pixel phones.
There’s no word yet on exactly when Google might launch Handoff. But if these breadcrumbs are any indication, Android users could be in for some major cross-device upgrades in the near future.
