Do you use Google’s AI assistant, Gemini, to create Disney characters? Well, now you can’t. The Mountain View giant has blocked Disney prompts on Gemini, preventing users from generating images of popular characters such as Elsa, Iron Man, and Darth Vader. This comes just a few weeks after the company received a cease-and-desist letter from Disney.

Disney character prompts no longer work on Gemini

In December 2025, Disney and OpenAI inked a three-year licensing agreement that grants OpenAI exclusive rights to generate licensed images and videos using Disney characters. The deal covers more than 250 characters from several brands like Disney, Marvel, Pixar, and Star Wars. As such, ChatGPT and Sora are officially allowed to create Disney characters.

Disney also sent Google a cease-and-desist letter around the same time. Part of the letter reads “immediately cease further copying, publicly displaying, publicly performing, distributing, and creating derivative works of Disney’s copyrighted characters.” While Google did not act immediately, it seems the company has now taken a step, as Disney character prompts are being blocked on Gemini.

When users try to create a Disney character on Gemini, the tool doesn’t process the request and shows a message. The response reads: “I can’t generate the image you requested right now due to concerns from third-party content providers. Please edit your prompt and try again.” For example, if a user tries to generate an image of Disney’s Elsa, the system denies the request immediately.

For the uninitiated, Gemini features a built-in image generation and editing tool called Nano Banana. The tool lets users create high-quality images and edit photos directly on the platform. Of course, you can still generate a wide range of characters, but Disney-owned intellectual property is no longer available. Hopefully, Google will find a solution to address copyright concerns, so users can create Disney characters again. For now, you can rely on AI tools like ChatGPT and Sora.
