Gemini Will Soon Ditch the Mobile Layout for Foldables and Tablets

If you’ve ever used Gemini on a foldable or tablet, chances are you already know the pain. If you haven’t, it feels like a phone app stretched to the breaking point, wasting most of the screen real estate with white space. That actually makes it harder to use. Thankfully, though, this won’t be the case for much longer.

Gemini will finally make use of screen real estate on foldables, tablets

According to Android Authority, the latest Google app beta v16.20.48.sa.arm64 reveals that Google is cooking up a big-screen-friendly layout (think foldables or tablets) for Gemini. The new design closely resembles Gemini on the web, featuring a sidebar on the left that gives you quick access to past chats, a button to start a new conversation, and a handy search feature.

You can also tuck away the sidebar by tapping the hamburger menu if you want Gemini to take up the whole screen. The new layout adds a top menu for switching between different Gemini models, and the prompt bar now includes helpful chips for Video, Search, Research, and Canvas. It’s a big step up from the current layout, which doesn’t make the best use of extra space on foldables and tablets.

There’s no official word on when this new interface will roll out, but it could happen later this year. Google might be holding off for the Pixel 10 Pro Fold or the Galaxy Z Fold 7 to debut the new look. If that’s the case, it won’t be long; rumors say the Galaxy Z Fold 7 drops sometime in July.

On top of that, the same Google app beta version hints that Gemini will soon make it easier to share text responses. As usual, there’s no telling when these features will hit the stable version, but these clues show it’s definitely a work in progress.
