Gemini on Your Galaxy Phone May Soon Have More AI in the Overlay

Gemini has come a long way since it first launched. I, along with many others who have used it since Bard, may very well agree with that. Google keeps updating it and adding new features. Recently, it seems Google is working on a big upgrade to the Gemini overlay, which will add more functionalities.

Gemini overlay may soon have a Tools button for image, video, and research!

A report from Android Authority cracked open the Google app v16.40.18, which revealed some interesting clues. According to which, Gemini overlay may soon have a Tools button. This means you can use features like image generation, video creation with Veo, Deep Research, and Canvas without opening the full Gemini app. Just tap the Tools icon, pick a feature, and it’s ready to go. This change makes Gemini’s tools much easier to reach and should encourage more people to use them.

For context, Gemini has two ways to interact: the full app, which offers all features, and the lightweight overlay, which appears over other apps and can be triggered by a hotword or shortcut. While the app is powerful, the overlay is quicker and more convenient for everyday use.

The report also reveals that Google is also testing a Circle to select feature. It lets users circle any part of their screen and send that section to Gemini as an attachment. Currently, this option is only in the overlay, but it may expand to the full app later.

In addition, Google is improving how generated images are handled. The Share and Download buttons have moved to the bottom of the screen for easier one-handed use, and a new Copy Image option has been added. Chat menus also now include Copy and Download options, while long-pressing images still works the same way.
