Galaxy Z Fold 7 Sales Nearly Double in Japan, Galaxy S25 Ultra Follows Suit

Two of our favorite Samsung phones are also setting new records in Japan. Samsung reports that sales of the Galaxy Z Fold 7 nearly doubled, while the Galaxy S25 Ultra (review) sold about 1.5 times more units than their respective predecessors in Japan. This follows a previous report from Counterpoint, which noted Samsung saw rare growth in the country.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Galaxy S25 Ultra are equally loved in Japan

Samsung recently hosted an event to mark the 15th anniversary of the Galaxy S series in Japan. At the same event, the company revealed impressive sales figures. According to these figures, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 outsold its predecessor, the Z Fold 6, by 180% over the same period. Similarly, the Galaxy S25 Ultra exceeded the sales of the S24 Ultra by 150% in Japan (via SamMobile).

Japan has long been one of the few countries where Samsung struggled to gain a foothold. To turn that around, the company tried a few different approaches. For years, it downplayed the Samsung name in favor of Galaxy branding because of political tensions, but that changed in 2023. Other efforts, like focusing on mid-range devices, teaming up with carriers, and boosting marketing, may have helped Samsung gain recognition and some love in Japan. I digress.

In its recent announcement, Samsung explained that the growth comes from several key strategies. The company is making its products easier to buy by partnering with local carriers, electronics stores, and online shops. Samsung is also enhancing in-person experiences by opening more Galaxy Studio stores, where people can try out devices before buying. This hands-on approach helps customers feel more confident.
