Gemini May Get a “Tell Me About This” Feature Similar to Circle to Search

Since Gemini’s launch, Google has been putting a lot of effort into improving its AI-powered assistant. The company is reportedly working on a new feature called “Tell me about this” within the assistant. Interestingly, the feature is very similar to the popular Circle to Search tool that lets you search for information by simply circling on the screen.
Google may introduce an on-screen search feature to the Gemini assistant
There’s no doubt that AI integration across several Google apps has significantly helped everyday life as well as productivity. Just recently, a report revealed that Google has begun testing AI-generated summaries in the Discover feed to offer informative previews of stories at a glance. Now, folks over at Android Authority have discovered a new “Tell me about this” feature within the Gemini AI assistant. The feature is currently hidden in the latest beta build of the Google app for Android.
When you activate the Gemini assistant, you will see a “Tell me about this” option beneath the existing “Share screen with Live” button. Tapping on the former activates search capability on the entire screen within the Gemini interface. Just like Circle to Search, you can circle a specific area of the screen. Gemini will then analyze the selected image, text, or other content and provide you with relevant information.
It’s quite confusing, as we already have the Circle to Search feature that can be triggered to search on-screen content. Now, with Gemini offering a similar solution under a different name, it creates unnecessary overlap. That said, the feature is currently in development, and Google may tweak the branding or functionality before its official release.
Note that there’s no guarantee Google will publicly roll out the feature. However, its presence in the latest beta APK suggests the chances are high. We will let you know once the rollout begins — stay tuned.
