Galaxy Z TriFold Can’t Flex When It’s Missing This One Mode

The past few hours have been all about the Galaxy Z TriFold, and I have to give Samsung credit for keeping its promise. It is a shame that it will not be available in the US yet, even though the phone will reach retail shelves in South Korea in about ten days. We have been talking about Samsung’s debut multi-form factor phone all day, and there is actually something it does not inherit from the rest of the foldable lineup.

You read it right, the Galaxy Z TriFold doesn’t support Flex Mode

YouTuber SuperSaf has gone hands-on with the Galaxy Z TriFold, and his early look confirms something many foldable fans will not be happy about. The Galaxy Z TriFold does not support Flex Mode. This is the feature that lets you partially fold a Galaxy Z Flip or Fold to watch videos hands-free, take photos by placing it on a surface, or turn the device into a mini laptop for calls and typing.

With the TriFold, you will need a kickstand case or a nearby object if you want hands-free video calls or stable shots. If you are already coming from Samsung foldables, you will miss this key feature in daily use. To be fair, Samsung is working with a much more complex structure here, and the dual in-folding hinges may have made Flex Mode difficult to implement.

Even so, Samsung deserves credit for continuing to experiment and arriving early with this form factor. At the moment, Huawei is the only other phone maker producing trifold devices, and that’s not available in the US. Except that, many other phone makers are only rumored to be working on them. Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold is official, however and it goes on sale soon. There’s no word on US pricing yet, but it costs roughly around $2,450 in Korea.
