Samsung’s foldable phones took a major leap in 2025, with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 delivering the most refined foldable experience to date. The Fold model, in particular, is sleeker, lighter, and faster, with upgraded cameras, bigger displays, and more enhancements. However, this may just be the beginning of some remarkable innovations.

According to industry analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, the Galaxy Z Fold 8 will feature a laser-drilled metal display plate, a new internal component designed to better absorb and distribute the stress created when the screen folds. This could allow the screen to remain completely flat when unfolded, eliminating the crease along the fold line.

This has been more of a dream than a reality for foldable users. Ever since Samsung introduced its first foldable, the visible crease on the main display has been a persistent complaint. While each generation has made the crease less prominent, it has never fully disappeared. That could change in 2026.

This display innovation will reportedly be supplied by Fine M-Tec, a South Korean company also tapped by Apple to supply components for its first foldable iPhone, rumored to launch next year. Samsung and Apple could go head-to-head in the foldable space for the first time, and both might use the same crease-reducing tech.
