Galaxy Z Fold 7 Proves Thinner Than Honor Magic V5 Despite Bold Claims

The competition to build the slimmest foldable phone is heating up, and Honor made a bold move by calling its new Magic V5 the world’s thinnest foldable. But just days later, Samsung revealed its Galaxy Z Fold 7, and it turns out Honor’s big claim doesn’t hold up. What a dis(honor)!

Galaxy Z Fold 7 is actually thinner than Honor Magic V5!

Ice Universe shared a video that directly compares the two phones. Despite Honor saying the Magic V5 is thinner, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 clearly looks slimmer in real life. So what happened?

It all comes down to how Honor measured the Magic V5. The company listed its thickness as 8.8mm, just a hair thinner than Samsung’s 8.9mm Fold 7. But in the fine print on its website (via SamMobile), Honor admits that this number leaves out some important parts, like the screen protectors and even the raised camera area. That’s not how phones are usually measured.

Most companies skip counting the camera bump, which is common. But skipping the screen layers is not normal, since users can’t remove them and they add real thickness. This trick helped Honor make a strong marketing splash right before Samsung’s big Galaxy Z Fold 7 launch. But it wasn’t an honest comparison.

And lighter, too!

Believe it or not, weight has also become a selling point in foldables. While all the major brands promote their foldables as lighter than ever, the official numbers don’t always match real-world tests. For example, Samsung says the Galaxy Z Fold 7 weighs 215 grams, but it’s actually around 218 grams. That’s still better than Honor’s Magic V5, which weighs 224 grams when everything is included.

Samsung comes out ahead not only in design but also in delivering more accurate specs. The Galaxy Z Fold 7 is both thinner and lighter in everyday use, and Samsung notably didn’t rely on tricks to prove it.
