Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 Redefine Foldables with Thinner, Lighter Designs

Since pre-orders for the new foldables began, Samsung has been getting a solid response from consumers around the world. After all, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 arrive as the most advanced foldables yet, with substantial upgrades over previous generations. The company now highlights what makes these new foldables so impressive.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7: The most advanced foldables yet

Samsung entered the foldable market in 2019 with the goal of delivering big-screen power in a pocket-friendly device. Finally, the seventh-generation foldables bring that promise to life, thanks to years of design and engineering advancements. In its Newsroom post, Samsung wrote, “The Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Z Flip 7 are Samsung’s thinnest, lightest and most advanced foldables to date”.

The Galaxy Z Flip 7 measures just 6.5 mm thick when open and 13.7 mm when closed, making it easy to slide into any pocket. Samsung also enhanced the battery’s energy density, resulting in a 300 mAh increase over its predecessor — without increasing the thickness. Meanwhile, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 measures just 8.9 mm folded and 4.2 mm unfolded, which is almost half as thick as the original Fold. The device features a new 21:9 bar-phone aspect ratio, enhancing portability.

Speaking of advancements in hinge technology, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 adopts the new Armour FlexHinge — 27% thinner and 43% lighter than its predecessor. The device’s thicker Ultra Thin Glass (UTG) offers a smooth and less-visible crease. Likewise, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 features the thinnest FlexHinge yet — 29% slimmer than the one used in the Z Flip 6.

Improvements in the display segment

The company optimized the panel structure and used advanced materials in the new Fold model to reduce display thickness. For enhanced durability, it used Titanium-based lattice instead of carbon fiber. Furthermore, the cover screen features Corning Gorilla Glass Ceramic 2. As for the Flip model, it features a new edge-to-edge Infinity Cover display with a 68% reduction in bezels compared to its predecessor.

For pro-grade photography, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 features a 200MP camera — a first for foldable phones. Thanks to a new thin actuator and a complete structural redesign, Samsung was able to implement a large sensor inside a slimmer device. While the Galaxy Z Flip 7 did not get a camera upgrade, the module has been reengineered to deliver flagship image quality in a slimmer housing.
