Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 Dimensions Revealed — Here’s the Real Thickness

As we recently explained, the Galaxy Z Fold 7 may be just 3.9mm thick when unfolded, but that doesn’t tell the whole story. This figure excludes the raised bezels or bumpers surrounding the display. Once those are factored in, the actual thickness measures closer to 4.5mm, with the folded device coming in at around 8.9mm to 9mm. A new report confirms these details and also reveals the full dimensions of the Galaxy Z Flip 7.

Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7’s thickness revealed

Samsung’s foldable phones feature raised bezels — or bumpers — around the inner display to help protect it from scratches. These bumpers also ensure that the two sides of the screen don’t rub against each other when the device is folded. However, Samsung doesn’t include them when measuring the device’s thickness. Instead, it measures from the display panel itself, resulting in a lower official thickness than the device’s actual physical profile.

This is exactly why we have multiple reported thicknesses for the Galaxy Z Fold 7. When measured from the screen, the upcoming foldable is just 3.9mm thick. However, if you do take the bumpers into account, the thickness comes in at around 4.5mm. CAD files obtained by SamMobile suggest the real figure is 4.54mm. The Fold 7’s unfolded dimensions are 158.43 x 143.14 x 4.54mm, which is in line with earlier leaks. When the camera bump is included, the phone is 10.08mm thick.

Coming to the Galaxy Z Flip 7, it appears to have the same thickness as the Flip 6. The CAD files show a dimension of 166.61 x 75.23 x 6.94mm (9.17mm thick with cameras), which makes it slightly taller and wider than the Flip 6 (165.1 x 71.9 x 6.9mm), but not slimmer. To recall, the Fold 7 is substantially thinner than the Fold 6 (5.6mm unfolded, 12.1mm folded).

That said, the Galaxy Z Flip 7 may get a battery boost, now featuring a 4,300mAh unit instead of 4,000mAh. It looks like Samsung had the option to make the device slimmer, but it chose to increase the battery capacity. The company may unveil the new foldables in July, so expect more leaks in the coming weeks.
