Samsung has released the first-ever software update for its Galaxy XR headset, bringing a handful of useful improvements along with a brand-new Travel Mode feature. This addition follows Google’s recent announcement of the feature for Android XR. It aims to make the headset more reliable and convenient during travel.

Travel Mode arrives on Samsung’s Galaxy XR

The first update for the Galaxy XR carries the firmware build version AYKE and weighs 925MB. The update is rolling out globally, including the US and Korea. The device continues to run on “XR” One UI, based on Android XR, which itself is built on Android 14.

The highlight of this release is Travel Mode, a tool designed to stabilize the headset for use inside airplanes. XR devices typically struggle with motion, limited space, and fluctuating connectivity when airborne. Travel Mode adjusts system behavior to keep the headset steady and functional during flights, offering smoother performance and fewer tracking interruptions.

Samsung has also focused on general system improvements. According to the changelog, Wi-Fi connectivity and stability have been enhanced, which should result in more consistent performance during online activities such as streaming, cloud gaming, and downloading apps.

Additionally, the Galaxy XR’s first update includes improved security protections, ensuring the device remains safe from potential vulnerabilities. Samsung is pushing the November 2025 security patches to the headset. It may not be the latest release, but routine security upgrades like this are essential for protecting user data and maintaining device integrity.

These improvements suggest that Samsung is prioritizing a more robust and reliable experience early in the Galaxy XR’s lifecycle. The company is signaling active development and support for the XR platform as it gears up to launch smart glasses in the coming years.
