Galaxy S27 Ultra May Ditch S Pen Slot for Bigger Battery Boost

There’s chatter that Samsung might remove its built-in S Pen from its Ultra flagships in the future. The Galaxy S27 Ultra, expected in 2027, may be the first to reflect this change. According to leaks, the Korean tech giant is considering this move to free up internal space, potentially allowing for a larger battery and a slimmer overall design.
Galaxy S27 Ultra could finally break the 5,000mAh battery barrier
Samsung has been developing a new S Pen system that can detect stylus movement without the need for a digitizer beneath the display. The redesigned S Pen may debut with the upcoming Galaxy Z Fold 7. This move should allow the company to make its next-generation book-style foldable slimmer.
With the Galaxy S26 Ultra, Samsung may follow the same direction — it might not implement an S Pen digitizer in the phone. However, unlike the Z Fold 7, it is expected to retain a dedicated slot for the S Pen. It could be the last model with a built-in silo for the stylus, though. A few days ago, a report suggested that the Galaxy S27 Ultra will drop the built-in S Pen.
We know that Samsung’s ambition is to make its flagship devices slimmer without compromising on performance, camera quality, or other key features. So, the removal of the dedicated S Pen slot should allow it to further reduce the Galaxy S27 Ultra’s thickness. But there’s more — according to a noted tipster from China, this move will allow Samsung to increase the battery capacity as well.
If true, we will finally see a meaningful battery upgrade in the Ultra lineup for the first time since the Galaxy S20 Ultra, which launched in 2020 with a 5,000mAh battery. Note that removing the S Pen slot does not mean the device will no longer support the stylus. The S Pen will remain an optional accessory, sold separately. It will be interesting to see how fans react to this decision, but there’s no doubt that a larger battery would be a welcome change for power users.
