It’s been a busy day for Galaxy S26 leaks. They’re coming in from just about every corner. If it’s been hard to keep track, don’t worry; our recent coverage rounds up all the major developments so far. But there’s one new (and interesting) detail that stands out. This time, it’s about the front camera on the upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra.

Reason behind Galaxy S26 Ultra’s larger front camera revealed

Earlier today, Ice Universe revealed that the Galaxy S26 Ultra would feature a larger front camera hole. This left many users disappointed. People felt that the larger punch-hole lens would take up more screen real estate. However, the reason behind this change may have now come to light, and it actually makes sense.

According to Ice Universe, the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s front camera hole will be around 4mm in diameter. It is noticeably larger than that of the Galaxy S25 Ultra. The reason is that Samsung has expanded the field of view to 85°. Subsequently, the equivalent focal length drops from 25mm to 23mm. If true, it will allow users to capture more people and the background in each shot. The wider view should make selfies and group photos look much better.

The new front camera of the Galaxy S26 Ultra now matches the wide-angle view of the rear main camera on the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Thanks to this, users can expect a wider view and improved framing in photos. This will simply make it easier to capture more in a single shot. You can see a mockup comparing selfie camera shots from the S25 Ultra and S26 Ultra below.

Samsung appears to be putting a lot of focus into refining the Galaxy S26 series, with multiple details already surfacing online. The lineup is expected to launch in February 2026 at the next Galaxy Unpacked event. Inside, only the Galaxy S26 Ultra might feature the Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5, while the S26 and S26+ will use the Exynos 2600. All models are also expected to come with refined M14 OLED QHD panels.
