Galaxy S26 Edge Camera Design Debate Grows as New Mockups Surface

The Galaxy S26 Edge has already sparked heated debate after leak renders revealed a radical new camera design. Critics claim the design resembles Apple’s upcoming iPhone 17 Pro, while defenders argue it’s an engineering necessity for an ultra-slim 5.5mm body and bigger 4,200mAh battery. Now, a reputed leaker has shared alternative mockups that show what the S26 Edge could have looked like with different design choices.
Potential camera design alternatives for the Galaxy S26 Edge
Tipster Ice Universe created a bunch of Galaxy S26 Edge mockups with different rear camera layouts, showing what the phone could look like if Samsung didn’t pick an iPhone-inspired design. One mockup shows a large circular camera housing, while another version features a short, square-shaped bump positioned at the top-left corner.
While visually distinctive, the downside is that these designs do little to free up internal space. Without a wide bar to redistribute components, Samsung may not have been able to fit the larger battery and new cooling system inside the Galaxy S26 Edge‘s ultra-thin frame. To that end, the tipster created another potential look, which you can see below.
It’s still a full-width camera slab, similar to what the current renders show. However, instead of looking like a rectangular block placed on top of the rear panel, the bump is blended seamlessly into the frame. This approach could preserve the benefits of the wide design, while giving the phone a sleeker, more integrated appearance.
The same source also highlighted an important detail. CAD files don’t reveal the real color or texture of the device. As such, the shades shown in renderings are purely imagined. This means the camera island could still end up being finished in solid black or matte.
If Samsung adopts this design, the look could change dramatically. A dark finish would make the camera bump blend into the back panel, giving the phone a cleaner appearance. Still, at this stage, alternative concepts are little more than wishful thinking. Samsung has almost certainly locked in the Galaxy S26 Edge’s design. The device should launch alongside the S26 Pro and S26 Ultra in early 2026.
