Samsung launched the Galaxy S25 Ultra with the October 2024 Google Play system update. Despite receiving multiple minor updates since its release, the device is still stuck on the same five-month-old patch. The latest 1.2MB update brought no changes to the Google Play system version. The Galaxy S24 Ultra also received a new update but remains on the November 2024 build.

Galaxy S25 Ultra and S24 Ultra are stuck on months-old Google Play system update

We recently checked for new Google Play system updates on the Galaxy S25 Ultra and S24 Ultra. The devices showed 1.2MB and 13MB updates, respectively. However, installing those didn’t introduce newer Play system versions. The two Ultra flagships are still stuck on months-old builds: October 2024 for the S25 Ultra and November 2024 for the S25 Ultra.

This is really disappointing, to say the least. While we can understand Samsung shipping the Galaxy S25 Ultra with an older Google Play system update, the company should have released newer builds by now. There have been a bunch of these 1.2MB updates lately, but no newer build. You can check for updates from Settings > About phone > Software information > Google Play system update.

At this point, it’s unclear whether the delay is on Samsung or Google’s end, but Galaxy phones have long struggled with slow Google Play system updates. A couple of years ago, several Galaxy phones went five or six months without a new Play update. Well, new updates were rolled out, but the build version remained unchanged.

We are seeing a similar pattern now, at least for the Galaxy S25 Ultra and S24 Ultra. Samsung and Google eventually addressed that problem, so it isn’t something they aren’t aware of. Hopefully, they will fix the issue on these flagships soon. Google has already announced the March 2025 Play system updates with a bunch of feature enhancements and other improvements.
