Does the Samsung Galaxy Z Fold 7 Have S Pen?

Samsung has officially launched the Galaxy Z Fold 7. While it’s packed with improvements in design, durability, and performance, there’s one feature that’s notably missing: S Pen support. That’s right — the Fold 7 does not support the S Pen at all. Here’s why.

Samsung dropped S Pen support from the Galaxy Z Fold 7 for a thinner and lighter design

While the Galaxy Z Fold series never included a built-in S Pen like the Galaxy Note or S Ultra models, the devices did support stylus input. They featured a digitizer layer embedded under the main display to read S Pen input, with Samsung offering a Fold Edition S Pen as an optional accessory sold separately. The company even offered cases with an S Pen slot to complete the experience.

But with the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Samsung has removed the digitizer entirely to make the phone thinner and lighter. The new Fold measures just 4.2mm when unfolded and 8.9mm when folded, and weighs only 215g — lighter than many regular flagship phones, including the Galaxy S25 Ultra. Removing the digitizer was a necessary trade-off to achieve this ultra-slim design. Unfortunately, it comes at the cost of S Pen support.

Samsung has reportedly been working on a new digitizer-free S Pen system, which would allow stylus input without requiring the extra display layer. However, based on what we’ve seen with the Fold 7, that new tech isn’t ready yet — or didn’t meet Samsung’s performance standards in time for launch.

For heavy S Pen users — especially those who relied on the Fold for note-taking, sketching, or precise input — this will be a disappointment. However, Samsung says most Fold users didn’t bother getting an S Pen or using it, so there may not be many disappointed users out there. For others, the thinner profile, lighter weight, and better overall portability may be a more than fair trade-off.
