For years, seamless file sharing between Android phones and iPhones has been a missing link. While Apple users rely on AirDrop and Android users have Quick Share, the two systems have never been able to talk to each other — until now. Last week, Google finally made Quick Share work with AirDrop on iPhones. However, this capability is currently limited to the Pixel 10 series. That instantly raised the big question for Samsung users: Will Galaxy phones get this too? The answer is yes, but not just yet.

Quick Share-AirDrop file sharing is coming to Samsung phones

Google has already confirmed that more Android phones will gain the capability later. However, we do not have a rollout timeline or a list of supported devices (some older models may miss out on it due to security reasons or hardware limitations). Meanwhile, Qualcomm has announced that it’s working on enabling Quick Share-AirDrop file sharing on Snapdragon chipsets.

This hints at hardware-level play, but the feature likely doesn’t require a specialized hardware component. Updates to existing hardware-enabled functions might suffice. The newly built bridge between Quick Share and AirDrop appears to rely on industry-standard Wi-Fi Aware and use standard wireless protocols. So, not just Snapdragon-powered models, but all Galaxy devices that support Wi-Fi Aware should be able to transfer files to iPhones.

The good news is that Wi-Fi Aware is already supported by most modern smartphone chipsets, including MediaTek and Samsung Exynos processors. In fact, the feature has been around on Android phones for a while. Apple is the one that recently adopted it, under regulatory pressure. This allowed Google to build a bridge between Quick Share and AirDrop. As such, barring a few older models, this cross-platform file-sharing system should arrive on all Galaxy phones in the near future. We will keep you posted.
