Chrome Can Now Turn Web Pages Into Podcast-Style Audio

Chrome for Android is getting a smarter version of its read-aloud tool, and it finally feels like something you might actually want to listen to. The browser has offered a “Listen to this page” button for a while, but the old version was just a robotic voice droning through the text. Now Google is rolling out a new AI option that transforms articles into podcast-style audio. And of course, much easier on the ears.

Android Authority spotted the change while testing Chrome for Android v140.0.7339.124. That means it’s already rolling out, and more users can try it. What’s new is that instead of a single flat voice, the feature now uses a pair of AI narrators that work through the content together.

They don’t just read the page word for word… they summarize, trade lines back and forth, and explain what’s going on in a way that sounds more natural. It’s still clearly computer-generated, but it’s much easier to stick with than the monotone playback Chrome offered before.

Checking whether you have it is simple. Open any page in Chrome, tap the three-dot menu in the top right, and choose “Listen to this page.” If the update has reached your device, you’ll see new playback controls along the bottom of the screen. There’s also a button to switch between the standard voice and the AI-powered mode, so you can compare them quickly.

Google has been testing the feature in its Canary and beta builds for months, and now it’s finally moving into the main release. The idea comes from NotebookLM, the company’s experimental note-taking app that turns long reads into short audio explainers. Similar tools have already appeared in Search and Gemini, so Chrome is the latest stop in a broader rollout.
