Samsung has today updated its Camera Assistant app to version 4.0.00.6. The update brings back the 3D capture feature as the Galaxy XR is now official. The camera tool lets you create immersive photos and videos in 3D, allowing you to experience them on the company’s mixed reality headset.

New Camera Assistant update restores 3D capture feature

Part of Good Lock, Camera Assistant offers advanced camera tools for your Galaxy phone. While you can’t take photos or videos with this module, it lets you customize the stock camera app. For example, Auto lens switching automatically picks the best lens based on zoom, lighting, and distance, while Adaptive pixel reduces noise in low-light photos.

A few weeks ago, Samsung removed one of the most exciting features, 3D capture, from the Camera Assistant app (version 4.0.00.4). The feature was first introduced with version 4.0.00.3 and allowed users to create spatial photos and videos. It also supported 4K video recording at 30 fps for an immersive experience. This disappointed many users who planned to record 3D videos to enjoy on the Galaxy XR.

Thankfully, with the launch of the Galaxy XR, Samsung has brought the 3D capture feature back. The feature is currently available on the latest flagship devices, including the Galaxy S25, Galaxy Z Fold 7, and Galaxy Z Flip. It looks like the tool requires a powerful processor to handle advanced 3D imaging.

If you own any of these models and want to record spatial videos, you should update to the latest version of the Camera Assistant app. To do this, open the Galaxy Store and search for the module. Note that you may not see the latest build right away, so wait for a few days. Meanwhile, if you’re planning to buy Galaxy XR, make sure to use our affiliate link to score a $50 Amazon gift card and a $25 Google Play gift card.
