Apple Working on Sleep Score for Watch, But Galaxy Watch Had It First

It’s been quite a while since Samsung rolled out out the One UI 5 Watch update for Galaxy Watch devices, which packed Sleep Score and other features. Now, it looks like Apple is working on bringing the same for the Apple Watch devices. The plans may have slipped out early, thanks to iOS 26 code.
iOS 26 code hints at Sleep Score-like feature for Apple Watch, might come with watchOS 26 update
Folks over at MacRumors spotted the traces of an upcoming feature in a hidden image label “Watch Focus Score” found inside the Health app code. The image shows an Apple Watch with a number, likely a sleep score, surrounded by colored bars. These colors match the ones Apple uses to show sleep stages like REM, Core, and Awake. It also includes icons linked to sleep, such as a moon, bed, and alarm clock.

This points to Apple trying to create its own version of Samsung’s Sleep Score for the Watch. However, Samsung has been offering this feature for over a year, giving users a full picture of their sleep based on several key factors. Samsung’s Galaxy Watch not only tracks total sleep time but also takes into account movement, wake-ups, and sleep cycles. It even uses that data to offer coaching tips and suggestions to improve sleep quality.
Apple’s current sleep tracking is still basic in comparison. It shows time in bed and separates sleep into stages, but it lacks the kind of summary score and guidance that Galaxy Watch users have had for a while. Apple seems to be playing catch-up here, and while they may add more sensors or a unique name, the idea clearly follows what Samsung already delivered.
If Apple does release this sleep score feature in watchOS 26 or with its upcoming Apple Watch models, it will just be the beginning for them. Samsung has already set the standard in sleep tracking and wellness insights on smartwatches. For now, Galaxy Watch users remain ahead when it comes to understanding and improving their sleep with real data and smart feedback.
