Amazon is making online shopping faster and more convenient with its drone delivery service in the US. The e-commerce giant recently added several new categories of items for drone delivery, including Samsung Galaxy smartphones. So, when you order a Galaxy smartphone from Amazon, you could receive it at your doorstep within an hour, depending on your location and availability.

Your Samsung smartphone could land in just an hour, thanks to Amazon’s drone delivery service

In a recent blog post, Amazon said that its e-commerce platform now includes over 60,000 items for drone delivery. The company has obtained approval from the FAA (Federal Aviation Administration) to deliver several new categories of items, including devices like Apple iPhones, Samsung Galaxy smartphones, Apple AirTags, Apple AirPods, Ring doorbells, and Alpha Grillers Instant Read Food Thermometers.

Amazon is using the MK30 drone to simplify the process. Customers no longer need a QR code at the drone site as the process is now automatic. Once you place an order through the Amazon website or app, it will arrive in 60 minutes or less, which is even faster than the same-day delivery method.

It is worth noting that you have to live in an area where Amazon offers its drone delivery service. If you are in a supported location, you will see drone delivery as an option while finalizing the order. However, this service is not eligible for free delivery — it comes with an additional fee of $4.99. Moreover, the total weight cannot exceed 5 pounds (approx. 2.3 kg), so you need to keep that in mind when ordering multiple items at once.

When you choose the drone delivery option, you will need to select a specific spot at your address, such as in a driveway or yard. After the drone reaches the selected spot, it will confirm whether it’s in the right location with the right package. If the area is free of people, pets, and cars, it will drop the package there safely.

Amazon says it spent two years designing and implementing a digital map into the drone’s computer with eligible addresses. Unsurprisingly, this service is not available in all weather conditions, though it will still deliver in light rain.
