After Galaxy Buds 3, Samsung’s Buds 2 Series Gets New Update

A few days ago, Samsung rolled out a minor new update to the Galaxy Buds 3 series. It addresses known bugs and performance glitches for enhanced stability and reliability. A similar update is now available for the Galaxy Buds 2 and Galaxy Buds 2 Pro. As you might expect, the buds aren’t getting any new features here.
Samsung pushes a new update to the Galaxy Buds 2 and Buds 2 Pro
The latest update for the Galaxy Buds 2 carries the firmware build number R177XXU0AYF1. The new build number for the Pro model is R510XXU0AYF1 (thanks, X/@yourcuteashish). Samsung supplies a generic official changelog for both models, stating, “Stability and reliability – the stability has been improved.” This basically means minor performance optimizations and bug fixes without any new features.
This is the first software update for the Galaxy Buds 2 series in several months. Unlike phones, Samsung doesn’t release monthly updates for its earbuds and watches. Earbuds, in particular, often go 3-4 months or more without a new firmware release. Even then, we usually get these kinds of minor updates with no notable user-facing changes. Feature updates are hard to come by.
Nonetheless, if you are using a pair of Galaxy Buds, not necessarily a Buds 2 model, you should check for updates once in a while to ensure timely patches for known bugs. You can update them directly from the Settings app on your connected Samsung smartphone — buds controls are no longer available on the Galaxy Wearable app. When connected, your buds will show up at the top in the Settings app.
Select the Galaxy Buds pair you want to update and go to the Earbuds software update menu. Now tap Download and install to check for available updates. If an update shows up, download the OTA (over the air)package and follow the on-screen instructions to install it.
