Samsung Delays QuickStar Grid Customization Until Stable One UI 8.5

Samsung recently announced a major update for its Good Lock customization suite. Most notably, the QuickStar module is getting long-requested controls for adjusting the quick settings button grid size and orientation. While many expected this feature to arrive early for One UI 8.5 beta testers, Samsung has now confirmed that it will debut alongside the stable release instead.

More Quick Panel freedom is coming, but not until the stable One UI 8.5 update

The big Good Lock update is part of a system-wide UI overhaul coming to Galaxy phones with One UI 8.5. QuickStar, the module used for customizing the quick settings panel, is adding the ability to edit the Quick Panel layout in landscape mode, change the orientation of select quick setting toggles, set a custom image background behind quick setting buttons, and more.

Some of these features have already rolled out to One UI 8.5 beta testers. However, the option to change the quick settings button grid size and orientation remains notably absent. A Galaxy user recently raised the issue in a community post, prompting a response from Samsung. An official moderator confirmed that grid customization in QuickStar will only become available after the stable One UI 8.5 update.

Of course, the moderator didn’t share a timeline for the update, but we can make a calculated guess. One UI 8.5 is all but confirmed to debut with the Galaxy S26 series, which hits markets worldwide in mid-March. The said QuickStar feature should roll out by the end of March, if not earlier. A wider One UI 8.5 release for existing Galaxy devices may not begin until April, though.

Nonetheless, Samsung is clearly doubling down on personalization with One UI 8.5. Many other Good Lock modules are getting big updates, introducing fresh features. We will let you know when we have more information about these updates.
