Galaxy S22 Joins Samsung’s January 2026 Update Party

Samsung is rushing to wrap up its January 2026 security update rollout. The Galaxy S22 series is the latest to receive this month’s security fixes, following dozens of other devices over the past few days. The remaining few models should also join the party soon.

Every month, Samsung rolls out a new security update, aka SMR (Security Maintenance Release), for Galaxy devices. This update bundles dozens of security fixes for Android OS and One UI components. The latest release contains more than 50 fixes, addressing vulnerabilities across various system elements. Some of the patches target critical vulnerabilities with potential backdoors for attackers.
Samsung has already rolled out these fixes for several Galaxy devices, including all recent flagships, foldables, and a bunch of budget and midrange models. The Galaxy S22, S22+, and S22 Ultra are now entering the scene, with the update first rolling out in South Korea. The new firmware build version for the 2022 flagship lineup is GZA1.
As with other recent monthly patches, the changelog is minimal and focuses entirely on security and system stability rather than new features. The Galaxy S22 lineup will receive One UI 8.5 later this year, which will be its last feature update. Debuted with Android 12, these phones are not eligible for One UI 9 (Android 17). They aren’t covered under Samsung’s new support policy, which promises seven years of feature updates.
Samsung will gradually release the January 2026 security update for the Galaxy S22 trio in the rest of the world, including the US. Users can manually check for the update by heading to Settings > Software update > Download and install. As usual, the rollout will happen in stages, so some users may receive the update earlier than others.
