Last week, Samsung began rolling out its first software update of the year, introducing the January 2026 security patch. The Galaxy A34 and Galaxy A55 picked up the update first, with the Galaxy Z Fold 7 and Flip 7 recently joining the party. The latest security release is now available for the Galaxy S25 series as well.

Galaxy S25 series gets Samsung’s January 2026 security update

As usual, the update is initially rolling out in South Korea, where users are getting the firmware build version BYKG. The OTA file for the Galaxy S25 Ultra weighs 536MB, and it should be similarly sized releases for the other two models. Samsung should expand the rollout to other regions in the coming days. The build version and file size may vary across models and regions.

This update focuses on security improvements rather than new features, which is no surprise. Samsung is currently testing One UI 8.5 for the Galaxy S25 series, as well as dozens of other models. The new version will debut with the Galaxy S26 lineup in the coming months and then roll out widely. It brings a myriad of new features and enhancements.

In the meantime, Galaxy S25 users should install the January 2026 security update to prepare their devices for the upcoming feature release, while enhancing the overall security. This month’s patch fixes a total of 55 security vulnerabilities. These include flaws in the Android OS as well as issues specific to Samsung components.

Galaxy users can always check for new updates from Settings > Software update > Download and install. It’s worth noting that the January 2026 security update rollout has just begun, and it could take a while to reach users worldwide. If the update hasn’t appeared on your Galaxy S25 yet, there’s no need to worry. Wait a few days and check again.
