Samsung is the world’s largest smartphone maker, and likely also the company that releases the highest number of phones each year. This is especially evident in the budget segment, where it often releases multiple models separated by price differences of just a few dollars. Many of those offer nearly identical hardware, and in some cases, the same phone appears under different names across the Galaxy A, M, and F series. Samsung may soon repeat that strategy with the Galaxy M17e 5G.

Galaxy M17e 5G is on the way to confuse buyers

TheTechOutlook recently spotted a device called Galaxy M17e 5G (model number SM-M076B) in the Google Play Console list of supported devices. This usually indicates that a launch is close, possibly later this month or in February. There’s hardly been any chatter about this model before, so it’s a surprise entry to the list.

What’s more interesting, however, is the phone’s internal codename. It’s listed as A07x, which happens to be the same codename used by the Galaxy A07 5G. That strongly suggests the Galaxy M17e 5G and Galaxy A07 5G are essentially the same device, just marketed under different names depending on region or sales channel. As mentioned earlier, Samsung has done this many times before with its Galaxy A, M, and F series, often to tailor pricing and availability without developing entirely new hardware.

It’s worth noting that Samsung has yet to launch the Galaxy A07 5G (the 4G version debuted a while back). However, the device has been spotted on various certification sites and has been subject to many leaks before. It is likely to run on MediaTek’s Dimensity 6300 processor, paired with up to 8GB of RAM. A 6,000mAh battery may fuel the phone, offering 25W wired fast charging.

Samsung should ship the Galaxy A07 5G with Android 16 (One UI 8) out of the box. The device should be eligible for six generations of OS upgrades and six years of security updates. If the Galaxy M17e 5G is indeed the same phone, expect these specs to hold true for it. We shall find out soon.
