Galaxy S10, S20 and S21 Get Surprise Google Play System Update

After a few months of pause, Samsung recently resumed the rollout of Google Play system updates for Galaxy devices. Interestingly, some old Galaxy models are picking up the updates ahead of newer ones. The Galaxy S10, Galaxy S20, and Galaxy S21 are among the devices that have received new Play system updates.
Samsung resumes Google Play system updates on older Galaxy models
For months, several Samsung users have been running older Google Play system versions with no way to update them. The company also explained the delay, saying that when introducing new devices or major One UI updates, it temporarily suspends the latest Play system distribution to avoid potential software issues. The firm also promised to resume these updates sometime this month.
According to a report from GalaxyClub, Samsung has resumed Google Play system updates for a small group of older Galaxy phones. These include devices such as the Galaxy S10, Galaxy S20, and Galaxy S21. The update currently rolling out is the November Play system update. While it is not the most recent version, Samsung may have tested and approved it for its devices. Anyway, the update still brings a bunch of important security fixes and improvements to core Android components.
To check for updates, head over to Settings > Security and Privacy > Updates > Google Play System Update. Surprisingly, Samsung’s latest flagship models, such as the Galaxy Z Fold 7, Galaxy Z Flip 7, and the Galaxy S25 series, did not make it into the first wave.
It looks like the company is prioritizing older devices for the first batch. Note that Galaxy S25 users running One UI 8.5 beta have reportedly picked up the November update. Now that Google Play system updates have started rolling out again, we can expect Samsung to expand support to more Galaxy phones in the coming weeks. We will let you know when that happens. Stay tuned.
