Samsung May Never Launch its Ballie Robot

Samsung’s Ballie robot is one of the most exciting ideas in home technology. Six years after its CES 2020 showcase, however, the robot has yet to hit store shelves, and its future is now dark. The company recently described Ballie as an active innovation platform for internal use instead of a forthcoming consumer device.
Six years later, Ballie remains a concept
Samsung first introduced the Ballie robot at CES 2020 as a personalized companion that understands you. The robot combines a camera and smart speaker, letting it respond to voice commands and monitor the home. Over the years, the company continued to tease Ballie in different forms. At CES 2024, the robot returned with a larger, more spherical design and three wheels. The device also gained a built-in projector, allowing it to display videos on nearby walls.
At CES 2025, Samsung demonstrated that Ballie can perform simple tasks, such as sending directions to a smartphone and making recommendations. In April 2025, the company promised to release Ballie in the United States and South Korea that summer. The firm even highlighted Gemini AI’s use of the robot for natural conversations and managing home environments.
While fans were hoping to see further updates at CES 2026, Ballie was nowhere to be seen at the show. Meanwhile, Bloomberg recently noted that the robot has been indefinitely shelved. The reason is that in an email statement, Samsung has referred to the device as an active innovation platform within the company, rather than a forthcoming consumer device.
“After multiple years of real-world testing, it continues to inform how Samsung designs spatially aware, context-driven experiences, particularly in areas like smart home intelligence, ambient AI and privacy-by-design,” the statement reads.
Interestingly, this is different from the company’s earlier message, which said it was still refining and perfecting the technology to deliver an even more impactful customer experience. So, only time will tell whether Ballie will ever come as a consumer device.
