Samsung Health v6.31 Rolls Out With Improved Snore Detection Accuracy

Samsung Galaxy phones offer snore detection through the device’s microphone. It requires the phone to be charging and positioned near your head. Users may also need to allow the Samsung Health app to continue running in the background so it can track snoring duration and volume. A new update is now rolling out that changes how snoring is detected.
Samsung Health v6.31 focuses on accuracy, but also sacrifices old snore recordings
Samsung Health v6.31 is rolling out with an upgraded snore detection algorithm aimed at improving accuracy. According to an in-app notice (h/t @theonecid on X), the update should deliver snoring data that is more reliable and better aligned with actual sleep patterns for Galaxy users who track sleep using their phone, Galaxy Watch, or Galaxy Ring.

The update does come with a trade-off. While existing snoring history will remain visible in the app, audio recordings created using the previous detection system can no longer be played back after updating to version 6.31. Samsung says this is due to a data reset required to support the new algorithm.
Those older recordings are not being deleted outright. They simply become unavailable for playback, while any new snoring recordings captured after installing the update will work normally and can be listened to without issues.
Samsung Health already tracks sleep duration, sleep stages, and snoring when paired with supported Galaxy devices. According to Samsung, the improved detection system is necessary to provide more accurate results going forward. Well, even if it means breaking compatibility with older audio files.
You can check your app version by heading to Health > Settings > About Samsung Health. If it’s not the latest version, you can visit the Galaxy Store to see whether an update is available. For some users, the update may not be available yet, which is typical for rollouts that happen in batches.
