Earlier this week, a report claimed that Samsung had decided to exit the consumer SATA SSD market. It added that the company planned to gradually wind down SATA SSD production, with an announcement possibly coming in January 2026. However, Samsung has denied these reports in a statement to Wccftech.

Samsung says it’s not exiting the consumer SATA SSD market

Wccftech quoted a Samsung Electronics spokesperson saying that “the rumor regarding the phasing out of Samsung SATA or other SSDs is false.” This clears up any confusion and dismisses the earlier report, which also alleged that Samsung would phase out its SATA SSD production and reallocate its production lines toward NAND flash and DRAM products.

In fairness, the timing of the earlier report suggested that Samsung might have been considering a shift. Recently, Micron exited the consumer memory market in favor of supplying memory chips to larger companies, which are reportedly willing to pay a premium to keep production viable.

In that context, news of Samsung’s potential exit sounded plausible. However, the matter is now settled. And that is definitely good news for PC builders. There were also rumors that Samsung DS was refusing to supply memory chips to the MX division.

Samsung denied that claim as well. In a statement shared with SammyGuru, a spokesperson said, “Recent reports that Samsung’s DS division has rejected certain customer requests are baseless and not true. We are in close communication with global customers to address industry needs.”

Samsung’s confirmation also means there is unlikely to be reduced competition in the consumer SATA SSD market. Which would otherwise have driven prices higher. As long as Samsung continues to produce these SSDs, the era of affordable and widely available SATA SSDs is not coming to an end.
