Galaxy Z TriFold Unboxing and First Impressions: Thrice The Fun?

Samsung’s Galaxy Z TriFold, which once sold out in minutes, is back in stock in Korea. At the same time, we’ve finally received our unit. We imported it directly from Seoul to our office in Phoenix, and yes, it cost a pretty hefty amount. Still, the fear of missing out got the better of us. 

The box is solid, which isn’t surprising given the price and complexity of the device. Inside, you get the usual paperwork, a USB-C cable, a SIM tool, and a charger. This is Samsung’s first foldable with 45W fast charging, and the charging brick is actually included. Samsung also throws in a case with a hinge protector.

I spent a day with the Galaxy Z TriFold, and here’s what I think so far

The phone’s exterior will feel familiar to Fold users. The front display is almost identical to the Galaxy Z Fold 7, just with slightly thicker bezels. Unfold it twice and the TriFold opens up to a massive inner display. Despite the size, it’s impressively thin when fully open. Build quality feels solid, and it doesn’t feel fragile in hand despite early concerns.

That said, first impressions aren’t perfect. The panels don’t sit completely flat when unfolded, which may bother detail-focused users. Some UI elements also feel unfinished, especially in split-screen multitasking, where rounded corners clash with the display’s squared edges. App optimization is hit or miss too. Welp, apps like Facebook can be forced into full screen, while others, like X, simply refuse to cooperate.

After a full day of use, battery life has been solid, charging is noticeably faster, and durability feels better than expected. The phone works on T-Mobile in the US with strong 5G performance. The resolution is lower than on the Galaxy Z Fold 7 (review) or S25 Ultra (review), but in real-world multitasking, it hasn’t been a major issue.

I do feel like I’m forcing myself to use the large inner screen sometimes. It is a bit cumbersome to unfold the phone fully while on the go, which may be its biggest detractor for me. That being said, if you 100% know you’d use the big screen, this is the phone for you. 

Samsung will bring the Galaxy Z TriFold to more markets, including the US, in early 2026.
