Samsung Brings December 2025 Update to Galaxy S22 Lineup

As we wait for Samsung to expand its One UI 8.5 Beta Program to more regions, the company is rushing to wrap up its December 2025 security update rollout. It recently started rolling out the latest security fixes for the Galaxy S22 series. Users in India are getting the update first, with a global rollout expected in the coming days.

Samsung’s December 2025 security update lands on the Galaxy S22 series

Over the past few days, Samsung has rolled out this month’s security patch for several Galaxy devices. The Galaxy S22 series has now joined the list of supported devices for the December 2025 security update. The latest release bears the firmware version GYL1 and weighs under 500MB (download size may vary). It is based on One UI 8 (Android 16) and doesn’t bring any new features or enhancements.

This update focuses purely on security, delivering fixes for 68 vulnerabilities across Android and One UI. Users can also expect subtle improvements to overall stability and performance, as the update optimizes system processes and refreshes cached data in the background. However, don’t go deep looking for fresh features.

The good news is that Samsung has already confirmed that One UI 8.5 will arrive in early 2026. While the beta program is underway for some models, the Galaxy S22 lineup will skip testing and move straight to the stable release when it becomes available. It will be the final major feature release for the phones. Debuted in early 2022, the Galaxy S22 series is not eligible for Android 17 or One UI 9.
