Samsung Free Is Shutting Down, and Most Galaxy Users Won’t Care

Samsung is shutting down its Samsung Free app, a service that offers quick access to free news, videos, podcasts, and games. The company recently announced that it will discontinue the app on December 16, 2025. However, the surprising truth is that most Galaxy users won’t care, as the app wasn’t very popular. Moreover, there are tons of alternative options. 

Samsung to discontinue its Samsung Free this month

For the uninitiated, Samsung Free is an all-in-one entertainment hub that combines your TV, games, news, and podcasts. With just a single rightward swipe, you can explore four main sections: Watch, Listen, Read, and Play. The Watch tab lets you browse a host of free videos, including the latest dramas, news, sports, and movies. The Listen tab offers podcasts on topics like music, books, education, and hobbies. Likewise, the Read tab delivers real-time news updates, while the Play tab gives you instant-play games.

Of course, these are pretty helpful features, but most Galaxy users may not find them essential. This could be one of the reasons why Samsung has decided to discontinue Samsung Free. In its discontinuation notice, the company says that Samsung Free will no longer be available from December 16, 2025, and the system will delete all personal data collected for the service.

Samsung notes that only the Play tab experience will continue through the Gaming Hub, while the Read tab will be removed completely. The company also says, “We are grateful for your continued support and remain dedicated to delivering even better services in the future.” If you have any questions, you can send them to the company via Settings > Contact Us > Send Feedback > Ask Questions.

Now, when Galaxy users need to watch free shows or live TV, they can launch the Samsung TV Plus. The service offers a host of free, ad-supported channels across news, entertainment, sports, movies, and more. In other words, we can say this replaces Samsung Free’s Watch tab. Similarly, Gaming Hub now takes over the role of the Play tab, as mentioned above. For news and podcasts, Galaxy users can rely on apps like Google News, YouTube, and Spotify.
