While Galaxy S25 users are enjoying One UI 8.5 Beta, at least in some regions, there’s no clarity whether Samsung will launch beta programs for the Galaxy S24 series. Meanwhile, the company has released the December 2025 security update for the 2024 lineup. It brings security fixes and optimizations, but no new features.

Galaxy S24 series gets Samsung’s December update amid One UI 8.5 Beta uncertainty

The latest security patch for the Galaxy S24 lineup comes with firmware version CYL1. It is currently rolling out in South Korea, but a global release should be just around the corner. Depending on the model and region, the OTA package may weigh around 400MB. The update contains nearly 70 security fixes, addressing vulnerabilities across Android and Samsung’s One UI framework.

Interestingly, Samsung released the One UI 8.5 Beta Program for the Galaxy S25 series just hours after the December security patch. This sequencing may lead many Galaxy S24 users to assume their turn is next. However, as of now, there’s no concrete evidence suggesting an immediate launch on One UI 8.5 Beta for the 2024 flagships.

The good news is that Samsung is actively working on the update for several models. While the Beta remains limited to the Galaxy S25 lineup in select markets, One UI 8.5 is being readied for many others behind the scenes, including the S24, S23, and several mid-range devices. We will let you know when we have more information.

In the meantime, Galaxy S24 users can prepare themselves by installing the December 2025 security update. You can check for updates by navigating to Settings > Software update > Download and install. In case Samsung skips beta, you’ll have to wait several months for the stable One UI 8.5 update. It’ll debut with the Galaxy S26 series before expanding to other models, likely in the second quarter of 2026.
