We always knew that Google Assistant wouldn’t be here for long, and that was made pretty clear. Still, the exact timeline was always in question but we finally have our answers. Google Assistant will officially be laid to rest early next year and added to the infamous Google Graveyard.

You only have a few months left to play with Google Assistant before it packs its bags

According to newly updated support documents and banners spotted on Android Auto forum (via Assemble Debug), Google Assistant will remain available only until March 2026. There is no exact shutdown date yet, but Google’s own wording suggests that the transition is already locked in.

Once March arrives, whatever Assistant features remain across Android phones, Android Auto, Google TV, Wear OS, and other devices are expected to hand over the keys to Gemini. Google has not made a public announcement about the retirement yet. But these support updates are the clearest indicator we have seen so far of the final cutoff.

The writing had been on the wall for a while

The move itself is hardly a surprise. Gemini has already replaced Assistant as the default voice model on several Google platforms, including Android Auto. It understands the same commands, works across the same ecosystem, and adds more capabilities on top.

In day-to-day use, the interaction feels familiar enough that most people may not even notice the switch. Still, some long-time users who prefer Assistant’s straightforward behavior will likely feel the sting once their favorite voice helper fades out next year.

That said, this transition has been coming for months, and Google seems determined to unify everything under Gemini as it reshapes its ecosystem around AI. Assistant’s nearly decade-long run was impressive, stretching from phones to smart speakers to TVs and even cars. But with March 2026 now on the horizon, the countdown has officially begun.
