M14 OLED Confirmed, but Galaxy S26 Ultra May Not Get Brightness Boost

Samsung’s upcoming Galaxy S26 Ultra is expected to deliver meaningful display improvements, but a new leak suggests some of the rumored upgrades may not materialize. Peak brightness may remain unchanged, and features like 10-bit color depth appear unlikely. The phone looks set to adopt Samsung’s new M14 OLED material, though.

Galaxy S26 Ultra’s M14 OLED display may keep the same peak brightness

Early rumors suggested that Samsung would increase the Galaxy S26 Ultra’s peak brightness to 3,000 nits. However, noted leaked Ice Universe claims the upcoming flagship will keep the same 2,600 nits of brightness as its predecessor. While the upgrade to the M14 OLED material set should improve efficiency and longevity, Samsung won’t boost the peak brightness.

The leaker adds that they are still awaiting confirmation on some other expected upgrades. These include 10-bit color depth, high-frequency PWM dimming, and Polless screen technology. Also known as ‘On-Cell Film’ (OCF) or ‘Color filter On Encapsulation’ (CoE), Polless technology reduces display layers for better transparency and power efficiency. 

It replaces the traditional polarizer layer with a color filter and uses a black pixel definition layer (PDL) instead of the standard one for a thinner display assembly. The Galaxy S26 Ultra has been widely rumored to adopt CoE, but the latest leak suggests otherwise. Or maybe it’s still in the pipeline, and leakers aren’t aware of it; we shall find out soon.

There are also rumors about Flex Magic Pixel technology. This feature purportedly uses AI to reduce screen visibility from side angles, giving users an extra layer of privacy when using their phone in public. It appears to be a software-controlled feature rather than a hardware upgrade, so Samsung may introduce it with the Galaxy S26 series. Stay tuned for more leaks and rumors.
