If you’re tired of worrying about phone snatchers on the streets, there’s an unexpectedly simple solution making headlines in London: buy a Samsung. Thieves are reportedly returning Android phones, including Samsung Galaxy, to their victims after realizing they aren’t iPhones. Several victims say that after handing over their Galaxy device in fear, the attackers inspected the phone briefly, then handed it back with clear disappointment before fleeing.

Thieves don’t want a Samsung Galaxy, so maybe get yourself one

A recent report published on London Centric reveals a string of mugging incidents in central London, with this bizarre trend. Thieves are seemingly only interested in Apple iPhones. They “don’t want no Samsung,” or any Android phone in general. While Samsung’s latest flagships match or exceed iPhones in price, features, and security, criminals appear to still follow one outdated rule of thumb: iPhones are easier money.

iPhones consistently fetch higher resale prices and tend to move faster on the black market. Meanwhile, Samsung’s security ecosystem, including Knox protection, remote locking, SmartThings Find, and stricter anti-theft measures, turns stolen Galaxy devices into risky, low-profit targets. In other words, the criminals aren’t doing tech comparisons. They just know an iPhone flips fast, and a stolen Galaxy might as well be a paperweight.

Of course, being mugged is far from amusing. However, this pattern has led to one practical takeaway: if you want a phone thieves won’t steal, consider a Galaxy. You might just walk away from a robbery attempt insulted, but with your device still safely in your hand. Samsung regularly offers big discounts on its latest flagship models. The Galaxy S25 Ultra is currently available at just $949, much lower than its regular price of $1,299. If you want something better, the Galaxy S26 Ultra is just a few months away.
