Samsung is doubling down on its Wallet app for Indian users. The company recently added support for digital keys for Mahindra eSUVs, and now it has announced a few more features for the Indian version of the Samsung Wallet app. Here are four new features coming soon to Samsung Wallet.

Samsung Wallet is adding a bunch of new features in India

Samsung has confirmed that it will soon add UPI onboarding during phone setup, biometric authentication for UPI payments, online credit and debit card payments, and support for FOREX cards in Tap & Pay to the Wallet app. Although there’s no exact timeline yet, Samsung says these updates will be rolled out soon.

UPI setup during device activation: When you set up a new Galaxy phone, Samsung Wallet will now appear as part of the initial setup process. This means you can register for UPI right away without opening any additional apps. You’ll be able to start making UPI payments as soon as your phone is ready to use.

Biometric authentication for UPI: Earlier this month, India’s NPCI during Global Fintech Fest in Mumbai announced biometric authentication for UPI payments. Samsung has been quick to adopt the feature, allowing users to approve UPI transactions using their fingerprint or facial recognition. This removes the need to enter a four- or six-digit PIN for every payment.

Online card payments: Until now, Samsung Wallet’s saved credit and debit cards were primarily used for Tap & Pay. With the upcoming update, these cards can also be used for online payments. The app will automatically fill in your saved, tokenized card details for a faster and smoother checkout experience.

FOREX card support: Samsung has announced that the Wallet app now supports FOREX cards powered by WSFx Global Pay Limited. This feature enables users to make contactless international payments in foreign currencies while traveling abroad.

Commenting on the new features, Madhur Chaturdevi, Samsung India’s Senior Director of Services & Apps Business, said:

“We are thrilled to introduce these breakthrough innovations to Samsung Wallet. With the new updates, Samsung Wallet is no longer just a digital wallet, it has become a universal and secure gateway for digital payments, travel essentials, identity cards, and digital keys. From the moment users set up their new Galaxy device to the way they pay, transact, and travel, we are removing barriers and redefining convenience.”
