It looks like Samsung is teaming up with Nvidia, which just became world’s first company to mark $5 billion in market cap, to get access to advanced AI chips. The partnership could give Samsung a boost in AI-powered products, services, and internal tools.

Samsung chairman and Nvidia CEO to meet in Seoul to finalize AI chip deal

According to a report from Yonhap News Agency, the deal could be signed this week during the Asian Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) CEO Summit in Gyeongju, South Korea. We also got a first official glimpse at what might launch as the Galaxy Z TriFold a few kilometers away from the main event. Nvidia CEO Jensen Huang will meet Samsung Chairman Lee Jae-yong in Seoul to finalize the agreement.

Nvidia and Samsung

Samsung’s current high-bandwidth memory (HBM3E) chips have already been approved for Nvidia’s AI systems. Its next-generation HBM4 chips are being tested for Nvidia’s upcoming AI accelerator, Rubin. If Samsung’s HBM4 is approved, it will bring two huge benefits. One of them is billions in cash. Second, that will help challenge SK Hynix for the top spot in the memory chip market.

Nvidia is also expected to supply AI chips to other South Korean companies, including Hyundai, Naver Corp, and SK Hynix. These partnerships could bring AI technology to different industries, such as automotive, cloud services, and digital platforms. That would as well support South Korea’s efforts to become a leader in AI. We’ll let you know once the deal is official, and any specifics it brings along.
