Samsung’s Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2 is the latest version of its SmartThings Hub. The company has now detailed what makes this model its most advanced and compact hub yet. The central control unit will soon be available on Samsung.com (register here) and through Aeotec’s distribution channels.

Samsung’s new Smart Home Hub 2 redefines SmartThings connectivity

The Aeotec Smart Home Hub 2 supports Zigbee, Thread, and Matter protocols, allowing it to work with a wide range of smart home devices. It offers 53% faster CPU performance compared to the previous model, along with double the RAM for smoother multi-device connections. The new hub is 50% smaller, making it easier to place anywhere in the home. It also comes with a wall-mount option to maximize installation flexibility. Moreover, the company has improved reliability with local-first communication, meaning smart home automations continue to run even if internet connectivity is lost.

“With Smart Home Hub 2, we’re enabling more people to start and grow their AI Home experience with the speed and reliability of a dedicated hub, industry-leading Matter support, and of course the power and breadth of the SmartThings ecosystem,” said Jaeyeon Jung, Executive Vice President and Head of SmartThings at Samsung Electronics. “We will continue working closely with partners to strengthen the SmartThings ecosystem and maintain our leadership in setting global smart home standards.”

SmartThings is a key player in developing Matter, the global smart home standard that lets devices from different brands work seamlessly. It was the first ecosystem to support Matter and continues to support hundreds of Matter-certified devices for better experiences. Furthermore, it supports Matter-over-Thread products through its integrated Thread Border Router.

Speaking of the onboarding process, setting up the Smart Home Hub 2 is quite simple, even for first-time users. Once connected, the hub enables a bunch of smart home functions, such as automated home security alerts and climate control based on presence detection. Furthermore, users can set up leak detection, smoke alarms, and air quality monitoring.
