If you recently bought a Samsung flagship or even a mid-range device, you now get either seven years of updates in the first case or six years in the latter. However, this was not standard practice when the Galaxy S20 FE launched in 2020, as it was promised only three major Android updates and five years of security patches. That cycle is now complete, meaning the device has officially reached the end of its software support.

The Galaxy S20 FE will no longer receive any security updates

The Galaxy S20 FE has recently started receiving the October 2025 security patch. While that might be exciting, it is also time to say goodbye. According to SamMobile, the Galaxy S20 FE will not receive any further updates. Launched over five years ago, it was Samsung’s first Fan Edition phone. Now, five years later, we even have FE versions of the flip phones.

With Samsung officially ending the security update cycle for the Galaxy S20 FE, you might be wondering what makes a worthy replacement. There are plenty of phones that could serve as successors. If you want to stick with the FE formula, which offers lots of perks at a lower price with a few trade-offs, we have a recommendation that might make your Galaxy S20 FE feel ancient.

You might want to check out the Galaxy S25 FE, which currently offers a free storage upgrade. This means you can get the 256GB variant for the price of the base 128GB variant. In addition, trade-ins can give you up to $200. While the maximum applies to newer devices, trading in a Galaxy S20 FE or a similar model still puts $200 back in your pocket.
