Samsung may still be some time away from releasing the long-awaited One UI 8 Watch update for the Galaxy Watch 4 series, but owners of these aging Wear OS smartwatches have something to celebrate. The company has just started rolling out a new security update to the device. It is delivering the August 2025 patch to keep them secure and stable until the next major software upgrade arrives.

Galaxy Watch 4 series gets a late but valuable security boost

The new firmware release for the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic is identified by the build version ending in IYI1. It brings the August 2025 security patch, which isn’t the latest SMR (Security Maintenance Release) but stilll addresses a bunch of serious vulnerabilities. The update is currently rolling out in South Korea, with a wider global expansion expected before the end of October.

You can install the update directly from your smartwatch via Settings > Software update, or through your paired smartphone using the Galaxy Wearable app. If it’s not yet available on your device, don’t worry — Samsung typically expands OTA rollouts gradually over several days.

While this update doesn’t bring new featrues, the Korean firm has something big in the pipeline. It is preparing the Wear OS 6-based One UI 8 Watch update for the Galaxy Watch 4 duo. This update is currently in beta testing for the Watch 6 series (newer models have already received the update). The Watch 6, Watch 5, Watch 4, and Watch FE should pick up One UI 8 Watch before the end of the year.

Launched in August 2021, the Galaxy Watch 4 and Watch 4 Classic recently marked their fourth anniversary. One UI 8 Watch will be the final major OS update for the devices, though security patches may continue for a while. We will let you know when Samsung rolls out the upcming feature release.
