Samsung May Have Made a Ton of Money in Third Quarter

It looks like Samsung made substantial progress in its business in Q3 2025. The company could post its highest third-quarter earnings since 2022, with an operating profit of about 10.1 trillion won (around $7.11 billion). Analysts say that strong demand for conventional memory chips contributed greatly to this promising figure.
Strong memory chip demand could boost Samsung’s Q3 2025 operating profit
According to data from LSEG SmartEstimate (via Reuters), Samsung could report an operating profit of 10.1 trillion won for the July-September period. This is a 10% increase compared to the same period last year, meaning a strong recovery in its business. A few weeks ago, a report also suggested that the Korean firm is on track to reach this milestone.
As the integration of powerful AI systems in tech companies grows, demand for memory has also increased to support server workloads. Samsung took advantage of this opportunity to boost profits by increasing prices for conventional memory chips. For example, some DRAM chips saw price jumps of more than 170% in the third quarter from a year earlier.
However, not all areas of the memory business performed well. Samsung saw low profit in high-bandwidth memory (HBM) chips, mainly due to its failure to enter Nvidia’s HBM supply chain. Furthermore, US restrictions on advanced chip sales to China limited its growth. Meanwhile, rivals SK Hynix and Micron benefited more from AI-driven demand, securing stronger sales in HBM chips.
The good news is that Samsung’s financial outlook should improve further in the future, thanks to new big partnerships. For example, a few weeks ago, the company struck a $16.5 billion deal with Tesla to supply advanced chips. OpenAI announced that Samsung and SK Hynix to supply advanced memory chips to the Stargate project.
Note that these projections for Q3 2025 are based on analysts’ early forecasts. Samsung will officially announce its revenue and operating profit estimates tomorrow, with complete results later this month. We’ll be sure to let you know once the company reveals its financial report for the third quarter of the year.
