While not perfect, Samsung’s One UI 8 rollout has been progressing smoothly since its release two weeks ago. However, it looks like the update has now run into its first hiccup, as some users report a touchscreen bug. Fortunately, the only affected device so far is the limited-edition Galaxy Z Fold SE, keeping its impact minimal. Samsung has already pulled the update for this model.

Samsung suspends the Galaxy Z Fold SE’s One UI 8 update after a touchscreen bug

According to some Galaxy Z Fold SE users who installed the One UI 8 update, the problem appears right after unlocking the device. Touch input becomes unresponsive or erratic, making it difficult to interact with the screen. The only temporary fix is to lock and unlock the device again, which restores normal touch function. While this workaround prevents the phone from becoming unusable, it’s far from convenient on a daily basis.

In light of the widespread complaints, Samsung has acted quickly by withdrawing the One UI 8 update for the Galaxy Z Fold SE from its servers. This means users who hadn’t already downloaded the package will now need to wait until a patched version is released. Those who have already installed the update may need to rely on future hotfixes or minor patches to correct the issue.

As of this writing, this bug doesn’t appear to affect any other Galaxy device running One UI 8. Since the Galaxy Z Fold SE wasn’t sold globally, its impact is minimal. However, it is still a major inconvenience for the affected users. Hopefully, Samsung won’t take long to address the issue. Meanwhile, the company is rapidly expanding One UI 8 to other eligible devices. The Galaxy S23 series and Tab S10 series received the update a few hours ago, with more expected to join the party in the coming days.
