Samsung Can Now Test Devices for EU Cybersecurity Standards

Samsung can now internally test its devices to verify if they meet the European Union’s Radio Equipment Directive (RED) requirements. The company has received certification from TUV SUD to carry out this testing in its in-house cybersecurity laboratory. This makes Samsung the first South Korean manufacturer to obtain such recognition.
Samsung secures EU RED cybersecurity lab certification from TUV SUD
Last month, the European Union made the Radio Equipment Directive mandatory for devices that use radio frequencies. The directive requires network security, personal information protection, and prevention of financial fraud. This means that if any company wants to sell devices such as smartphones and smart home appliances in Europe, it must meet these standards.
A few weeks ago, TUV SUD certified that Samsung’s 2024–2025 TVs and commercial displays meet EU cybersecurity requirements. If you are unfamiliar, TUV SUD is a global testing and certification organization that evaluates the safety and security of products. The agency has now provided European RED cybersecurity testing laboratory certification to the Korean firm. This certificate award ceremony was held on September 3 at Suwon Digital City.

With this certification, Samsung can now set up an in-house verification process for devices that meets international standards. This is a big achievement for the company, showing that it takes data protection and cybersecurity seriously. Furthermore, Samsung will now gain greater trust from consumers that its devices are safe to use.
“This certification goes beyond simple cost savings and demonstrates that cybersecurity is becoming a key trust factor and selling point for consumers,” said Kim Hak-sang, Executive Vice President and Head of Samsung Electronics’ Global Customer Satisfaction Center. “With the proliferation of network-connected devices increasing the importance of cybersecurity, being the first in the industry to receive this certification is very significant. We will continue to work with TÜV SÜD to further strengthen our reliable security system.”
