Samsung is reportedly gearing up for a major new update for the Galaxy S25 series, and it’s not the One UI 8 release everyone’s waiting for. Instead, the company may first roll out a hefty One UI 7 update, said to be over 1GB in size. The exact content of this update remains unknown, though it’ll certainly bring the September security patch. One UI 8 should still be on track for a September release, though it may be pushed back late into the month.

Samsung may push a big farewell update to Galaxy S25 before One UI 8

According to noted Samsung insider @tarunvats33, Samsung will first push out the September 2025 security patch to the Galaxy S25 series before One UI 8. While these monthly security releases usually weigh around 500MB, the upcoming release could be relatively large at over 1GB in size. This suggests deeper under-the-hood optimizations or bug fixes alongside the regular stability improvements and security fixes.

Samsung may push the update with a generic changelog mentioning “improved usability” or “device stability enhancements” — Galaxy S25 users may remember the 1.2GB update released in May. But this upcoming release may stabilize the software, preparing the devices for One UI 8 with a solid foundation. This extra step could also minimize risks of major bugs before Samsung rolls out the big update.

Still, the timing leaves questions. Samsung has confirmed that the Galaxy S25 lineup will be the first to receive One UI 8 in September, but the actual rollout could slip into late September if this large One UI 7 update takes time to distribute. Beta testers will likely see an incremental OTA that transitions them smoothly from the beta to the stable build once One UI 8 goes live. For now, Galaxy S25 owners should expect another large monthly update before One UI 8 lands.
