Samsung makes the best Android tablets, and once again, it is claiming the top spot in India. Much of the credit goes to its premium offerings, such as the Galaxy Tab S10 series, while even its budget options contribute to this strong position. This, in turn, helps the company remain a top choice for tablets, despite a shrinking market.

Samsung clearly isn’t willing to share its tablet market share in India

According to the latest report published by IDC, Samsung shipped over 886,000 tablets in the first half of 2025 (H1 2025), giving it a 41.3 percent share of India’s tablet market. This is down from 1,432,000 units and a 45.2 percent share in the same period last year. The decline comes as the overall tablet market in India shrank by 32.2 percent year over year.

Lenovo claimed the second spot with 264,000 shipments and a 12.3 percent share, while Apple followed closely with 253,000 iPads. Xiaomi and Acer rounded out the top five, shipping 244,000 and 196,000 tablets respectively. Even though overall year-on-year shipments declined, Xiaomi and Lenovo recorded positive growth, accounting for 28.5 percent and 12.6 percent respectively.

“The consumer tablet market doubled between 2019 and 2021 and is expected to triple by the end of 2025. For budget-conscious buyers, tablets offer a perfect blend of portability and functionality without the high cost of laptops,” says Bharath Shenoy, IDC’s devices research manager.

Having said that, Samsung has more tablet launches planned. In just over a week, the company will unveil the Galaxy Tab S11 series. It’s expected to start at $859.99 for the base Galaxy Tab S11, while the Tab S11 Ultra will begin at $1,199.99.

In addition, Samsung has already announced the Galaxy Tab S10 Lite in the US and other markets, even though it will launch in India on September 5. What sets it apart from the Galaxy Tab S11 series is its pricing and positioning. The Galaxy Tab S10 Lite is a budget-friendly device, likely starting at INR 30,999 for the base variant.
