Samsung’s Tizen-Powered Galaxy Watches Are Now on Their Last Tick

Samsung’s Tizen OS for Galaxy Watch is finally coming to an end. After more than a decade, from the original Galaxy Gear to the Galaxy Watch 3, Samsung is shutting down content support in stages, with the final cut-off on September 30, 2025. And that’s just around the corner.
It’s time to bid a final goodbye to your Tizen OS-powered Galaxy Watch!
The Tizen phase-out started in late 2024, when Samsung stopped selling paid watch apps and faces in the Galaxy Store. This spring, free downloads were also cut off. The final step comes at the end of September 2025, when users won’t be able to download anything at all. Apps and faces already on a device will keep working, but once deleted, they can’t be restored.
This affects every Samsung wearable released before 2021, including the Gear series, Galaxy Watch models up to the Watch 3, and both generations of the Galaxy Watch Active. These watches will still work, but without app support or the ability to reinstall content, their usefulness will fade over time.
Samsung has moved on to Google’s Wear OS with the Galaxy Watch 4 in 2021. The latest models such as the Galaxy Watch 8 and Galaxy Watch Ultra run Wear OS-powered One UI Watch. They also offer better Android integration, improved fitness tracking, and stronger third-party app support.
For longtime Tizen users, the clock is ticking. If you still rely on a Tizen smartwatch, now’s the time to back up your favorite apps and faces. It’s also a good idea to trade in your old watch for whatever value you can get instead of letting it sit and collect dust. After September 30, 2025, the Tizen era will officially be over.
