Samsung has begun rolling out the August 2025 security patch to the Galaxy A73, A33, and A36. While owners of these devices wait for One UI 8 for a fresh Galaxy experience, the new update brings improvements in security, stability, and reliability. It is currently live in a few regions and will expand to more countries in the coming weeks.

Galaxy A73, A33, and A36 pick up Samsung’s August security update

Samsung launched its Galaxy A73 and Galaxy A33 in March 2022. Both phones are eligible for four years of major OS updates and seven years of security updates. While the upcoming Android 16-based One UI 8 will be the last major update for both models, they will continue to get security enhancements for a few more years. The August security patch comes with firmware version A736BXXSAFYH2 for the A73 and A336EDXSEFYH2 for the A33. As of now, it is rolling out in some Asian countries.

Speaking of the Galaxy A36, it is the company’s latest mid-range smartphone, running One UI 7 out of the box. Next month, the device will join the One UI 8 beta program, making it one of the first Galaxy A models to experience the latest Android features. For now, Samsung is rolling out the August security patch to the Galaxy A36, allowing users to enjoy improved device security. The update carries firmware version A366BXXS4AYH9 and is rolling out in Europe and India.

The August 2025 SMR (Security Maintenance Release) package contains fixes for 29 Android OS vulnerabilities and 18 Samsung-specific security issues. Among them, a notable flaw in the Samsung Account allowed local privileged attackers to deactivate the account. Other security fixes address vulnerabilities in several components, including Document Scanner and Emergency SOS.

If you want these latest security improvements, you should install the August 2025 update as soon as possible. To update, you can go to this route: Settings > Software Update > Download and Install. If you don’t see the latest patch, wait a few days, as Samsung is gradually rolling it out.
